Gallery Seek at Affordable Art Fair Hong Kong 2026 — Four Japanese Artists at Booth F02

From May 14 (Thu) to 17 (Sun), 2026, Gallery Seek (Tokyo) will exhibit at Affordable Art Fair Hong Kong 2026, held at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). Find us at Booth F02.
Affordable Art Fair is an international touring fair gathering contemporary art priced HKD 1,000–100,000 from around the world. The Hong Kong edition is one of the city’s largest art markets, featuring over 105 galleries and 800+ artists.
Gallery Seek brings four artists who embody Japan’s “now,” each connecting tradition and contemporary practice in distinct ways:
▶ Takeshi Harada (b. 1984) — Metalwork / 14 pieces
Winner of the Tokyo Midtown Award 2014 Grand Prix. Working in copper, brass, silver, urushi (Japanese lacquer) and metal leaf, Harada employs the three classical techniques of forging (tankin), chasing (chokin), and casting (chukin). Using no paint at all, every color emerges from chemical reactions (potassium sulfide patination, flame oxidation) or metal alloying. Highlights include “Trace” (2024, HKD 42,842) and his signature incense burners that double as sculpture (HKD 18,000–26,000 range).
▶ Kenji Shimizu (b. 1971) — Painting / 5 pieces
Graduate of Tama Art University (Painting) and Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School (Design, Chinami Nakajima Lab). Shimizu reinterprets classical Japanese imagery — Hokusai, Jakuchu, Choju-giga — through his original character “Bridolly,” a tin bird that cannot fly but keeps jumping until its spring rusts. Featured works include “BRIDOLLY-Phoenix-” (2024, HKD 55,579), “Sun and Blue Dragon” (2023, HKD 46,316), and “Ryukin and BRIDOLLY” (2022, HKD 27,789).
▶ Mio Okazaki (b. 1995) — Cubist Painting / 14 pieces
A former Weekly Pro Wrestling magazine reporter turned full-time artist. Okazaki applies Cubist technique — synthesizing the 360-degree viewpoints surrounding a wrestling ring into a single canvas. Recipient of the ARTIST NEW GATE Kenta Nakajima Award and Liquitex Award. Painter Kenta Nakajima calls her “a once-in-50-years talent.” Notable works include “TOPE SUICIDA” (2024, HKD 44,579), “ROMERO_SPECIAL” (2023, HKD 44,579), “ANTONIO INOKI ENZUIGIRI” (2024, HKD 31,842 – collab with the late wrestler Antonio Inoki), and “CUBIST JAZZ HARMONY” (2024, HKD 28,947).
▶ Ayaka Umeda (b. 1993) — Rōzome (Wax-resist Dyeing) / 7 pieces
M.A. in Textile Arts from Hiroshima City University; former adjunct lecturer (2018-2021). Umeda develops Rōzome (Japanese wax-resist dyeing, an ancient technique seen in Shōsōin treasures) as a contemporary painting practice. She has been selected nine times for the Mitsubishi Corporation Art Gate Program, with every selected piece acquired by Mitsubishi Corporation. Hong Kong selection centers on her “Dragon Soaring Through Cosmos” triptych — -Abyss-, -Vortex-, -Shine- (2024, HKD 14,474 each) — alongside “Sparrow Hidden in Flowers” (2023, HKD 11,579) and smaller works from HKD 5,789.
