Built on a gesso ground through successive transparent oil layers, the canvas captures the shifting reflections of sky and light across a water surface. Rather than depicting a celebrated vista, the composition frames an intimate, close-range encounter with water, prompting the viewer to imagine the surrounding landscape beyond the picture plane. The accumulation of translucent glazes lends chromatic depth to a subject defined by constant motion, grounding the ephemeral in material specificity.
