About this work
A vertically oriented work depicting a telescope-eye goldfish, rendered in mineral pigments and gold leaf on traditional Japanese papers—torinoko and tengujo. The delicate texture of the handmade papers and the luminosity of the gold leaf lend a quiet elegance to the drifting fish. A single telescope-eye goldfish drifts within a narrow vertical format. Layers of torinoko paper and tengujo tissue create a translucent ground, while gold leaf introduces subtle luminosity suggesting underwater light. Mineral pigments render the delicate, veil-like tail fins and the fish's characteristic bulging eyes with close attention to tactile texture. Without relying on outline drawing, fine brushstrokes dissolve the boundary between body and water, distilling a quiet sense of suspension and unhurried time into the slender composition.
