About this work
Built on a two-layer structure of hemp paper and hand-pulled Inshu kozo paper, mineral pigments applied to the lower sheet surface through the translucent fibers of the upper layer, lending the depiction of water a quiet, diffused depth. The shifting movement of water—constantly transforming yet never ceasing—serves as a material metaphor for the resilience referenced in the title. The interplay between painted gesture and the physical grain of traditional washi dissolves the boundary between image and substrate.
