Prayers for Safety

About this work

This intimate panel painting, measuring just W14 × H18 cm with a depth of 3 cm, quietly embodies the act of wishing for someone's safety and well-being. The title, "Wishing for Safety," evokes the most modest and universal of prayers—hoping that someone dear is safe today, as they were yesterday. Painted with acrylic gouache and pastel on panel, the work draws its visual presence from the interplay between these two media: the opaque, firmly laid color of gouache and the soft, powdery trace of pastel. This contrast mirrors the coexistence of steadfastness and fragility within a simple prayer. The panel's three-centimeter depth gives the piece an object-like quality, so that when hung on a wall it projects slightly forward—like a small talisman placed gently into everyday life.
