Snow on the Bamboo Path

About this work

Mineral pigments applied on kumo-hada washi render the texture of snow with a tangible granular depth. Vertical bamboo trunks segment the composition, establishing a quiet counterpoint between accumulated white and the subdued green of the stalks. Rooted in the artist's practice of traveling to each site and painting from direct experience, the work conveys the still, cold air that pervades a bamboo grove in winter.
