About this work

Built on silk through successive layering of wax-resist dyeing with reactive dyes, this 162 × 97 cm work presents stratified fields of color that evoke a slow descent beneath water. The irreversible process—applying heated wax, dyeing from lighter to darker tones, then removing the wax—yields a luminosity particular to pigment absorbed into fiber rather than deposited on a surface. Rooted in an animist practice that imagines the perceptual worlds of other organisms, the composition suggests the fading trace of sound sinking into depth.
