Kamikochi in Winter

About this work

This small-scale oil painting depicts Kamikochi in winter, rendering the snow-laden landscape through restrained tones and subtle shifts of light. Layers of brushwork convey the transparency of cold air and the stillness of bare trees. Rooted in plein-air practice, the work seeks to fix onto canvas the atmospheric conditions—temperature, humidity, silence—experienced firsthand at the site, distilling a direct bodily encounter with the landscape into a compact yet resonant composition.
