About this work
Part of the 'Flowers of Serendipity' series, capturing flowers set adrift on water and seen from directly above. Nakajima frames the chance arrangement of the floating blooms exactly as it occurs, fixing a one-time beauty beyond contrivance. Red roses float against a gold ground, blooms paired with their submerged shadows in a vertical chain. The vividness of red and the sheen of gold lend tension to the drifting moment. The overhead viewpoint departs from everyday sight, transforming the border of flower and water into a serene field of color. On this F12 (500×606 mm) , the crossing of chance and necessity rests in dense concentration.
