About this work
A blue dragon—Seiryū, guardian spirit of the East—emerges from a compact yet intensely concentrated composition measuring W27.3 × H22 cm. Painted with acrylic gouache and colored pencil, the work balances the opaque, vivid color fields of gouache against the fine, tactile lines of colored pencil. Each scale, each flowing strand of the dragon's mane carries a distinctive texture born from the interplay of these two media. In East Asian tradition, the blue dragon has long been associated with spring, water, and renewal. Here, that classical subject is reinterpreted through a contemporary hand, situating the image at the intersection of inherited iconography and personal expression. The layering of media—broad matte surfaces beneath delicate drawn detail—creates a sense of depth and physicality within a single, still plane.
