Portrait of Mr. Akira Abe

About this work

Rendered in oil on panel, this portrait captures the sitter's presence through carefully layered glazes that articulate subtle shifts in skin tone, gaze, and expression. The rigid, smooth surface of the panel provides a stable ground for the precise realist technique on display. Rooted in the artist's practice of conducting a silent dialogue with each subject, the work holds a quiet tension between formal restraint and intimate observation.
