About this work
Translucent layers of oil paint accumulate on canvas, dissolving the contour of a figure into soft tonal shifts while a faint presence persists beneath the surface. A sheet of glass interposes a physical gap between viewer and pigment, pushing the image further from reach. Rooted in the artist's early engagement with the monochrome gradations of X-ray film and the incidental marks on its surface, the work compresses the tension between approaching and distancing its subject into a compact thirty-three-centimetre square—functioning as a quiet marker that invites each viewer's own memory.
