About this work
A figure appears submerged within layered fields of color in this compact panel work. Acrylic paint is applied, disrupted, and rebuilt before oil paint adds viscous, tactile passages on top, producing a surface where smooth planes and rough textures coexist. The deliberately ambiguous expression and the interplay of cool and warm hues embody the central tension of the MEISAI series: the unease of blending into one's surroundings set against the comfort that same concealment provides.
