A small panel work on cotton canvas, built up with layers of acrylic, oil, and tempera. The interplay of textures from these distinct media creates subtle tonal relationships across the surface. As part of the ongoing MEISAI series, the piece explores the materiality of paint and its visual resonance. Layers of acrylic, oil, and tempera on cotton-mounted panel create a surface where a figure dissolves into surrounding color yet remains perceptible. The built-up texture—produced through cycles of painting, obscuring with opaque pigment, and rebuilding—retains traces of both intention and chance. Facial features are deliberately muted, leaving the viewer to sense whether the figure's submersion in color signals unease or comfort. The physicality of the paint surface, with its ridges and fluid passages, asserts a material presence independent of the depicted image.
