About this work

A small-scale work on cotton canvas mounted on panel, built through layered applications of acrylic, oil, and tempera. The title, evoking camouflage, suggests an interplay of different paint mediums forming distinct color fields and textures across the surface. Layers of acrylic, oil, and tempera paint accumulate on cotton-mounted panel, embedding a figure within strata of color. The surface bears traces of deliberate destruction and reconstruction—opaque paint applied to disrupt the image before it is rebuilt—yielding a tension between intention and chance. Part of the ongoing MEISAI series, the work addresses the ambivalence of dissolving into one's surroundings: the anxiety and the comfort of becoming indistinct. The figure's expression remains deliberately unresolved, leaving the viewer to gauge its ease or unease.
