About this work

Set against a soft pink background, this acrylic on canvas work depicts the pro-wrestling submission hold known as the "Bow and Arrow." Multiple body parts—a pale-blue face, a bold yellow fist, gray and red torso fragments—interlock within thick black outlines, forming a single dynamic composition. The square canvas (652 × 652 mm) is deliberately chosen to echo the shape of a wrestling ring. The artist employs a Cubist approach rooted in the fact that a wrestling audience surrounds the ring from 360 degrees. As she explains, "Each seat offers a different view, and each angle has its own beauty. By using Cubism, I can freely express those multiple vantage points on a single surface." Sections of gray underpainting are intentionally left visible, reflecting what she calls the "gray zone" of pro wrestling—the ambiguity between reality and performance that viewers are invited to embrace rather than resolve. Scattered across the composition are small red circles and partially concealed eyes, rewarding close inspection. Each shift of the viewer's gaze reveals new anatomical fragments—an embodiment of the artist's belief that audiences should feel free to see whatever they wish in the work.
