About this work
Azalea blossoms rendered in mineral pigments and gofun on kumohada-mashi paper emerge from a ground accented by ink outlines and applied metal leaf. Kirikane—thin strips of layered gold foil cut and adhered by hand—traces delicate geometric lines across petals and foliage, introducing an ornamental register rooted in Kamakura-period Buddhist painting. The convergence of classical decorative technique and an intimate botanical subject produces a quiet tension between sacred craft and observed nature.
