Ouka Fukui

PROFILE

Ouka Fukui 1968 Born in Hiroshima Prefecture Completed the master's course in oil painting, Musashino Art University; Award of Excellence for the completion work Work presented to Kaisei Senior High School Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Prize, Hakujitsukai Exhibition Currently a member of the Hakujitsukai and a member of Nitten Fukui works with a strong commitment to painting from life — the model stands before the canvas as he paints. He carefully repeats the work of transcribing, piece by piece as though spinning thread, the living woman or the motif before his eyes. Spending real time together with a life or a scene, the world he paints seems to produce an essential presence beyond all physics. The temperature and humidity of the studio, the passing of time, the model's steady breathing and the condition of her skin, words, even the sound of fabric brushing — all become colour and form and appear on the canvas, the boundary between the model and the painter. The complex matière that comes of a way of working committed to the real image is another of the pleasures of his work. We hope you will see for yourself the aura of Ouka Fukui's paintings, backed by overwhelming skill.
