Holes punched in metal change color depending on your angle. That's the core experience of 《cool it division》—the new series by Yu Uchida, whose solo exhibition "POP-UP COUNTER" is now on view at Gallery Seek (Caretta Shiodome B1F, Tokyo) through June 13, 2026.
Drawing from the 19th-century color theory of Divisionism, Uchida physically splits two contrasting hues across punched metal panels. As viewers shift their position, the colors blend and separate in the eye itself—the same perceptual logic that once drove Seurat's brush, now realized through a grid of small holes.

■ About 《cool it》
The protagonist of Uchida's signature series is a polar bear rendered as a melting ice candy—packaging the climate crisis inside the visual language of Japanese kawaii consumer culture. "Cool it" is both an ironic command to humanity and a quiet counter-strike against mass consumption society.
